Located at AstraZeneca’s 101-acre Macclesfield campus, this newly envisioned People’s Hub is integral to the pharmeceutical company's employee engagement strategy, fostering enhanced collaboration and connectivity among teams.

The refurbished facility would not only house 150 employees but also serve as a multi-purpose communal space, featuring breakout areas, meeting rooms, and a café for all employees and visitors. The vision was transformed in partnership with leading designers at Tsunami Axis who helped reflect AstraZeneca’s strong commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The refurbishment places a strong emphasis on sustainability, choosing products that align with this commitment, transforming a redundant engineering building into a state-of-the-art manufacturing support and amenities facility. Design decisions were guided by environmental considerations and maintaining low carbon footprint with 100% of the desking reused, and an impressive 36% of the total furniture repurposed, resulting in a significant reduction in the project's carbon footprint. In total, 43.9 tonnes of carbon were saved.

With the ability to move, reconfigure and reuse in future refurbishments Spacestor’s Verandas were chosen because they are “future-proof”, aiding Astra Zeneca to reach their sustainability aims. Clad in navy blue, the room exudes a professional yet inviting atmosphere, with contrasting upholstery in sage green softening the look, offering a calm, comfortable space for occupants.

The Verandas configuration is defined by a meeting room area with tech integration, also serving as a flexible hub for focused work and collaboration, without the need for permanent walls. This opens up the opportunity for fluidity around the work zones which is essential for a dynamic work environment.
The focus nooks within the Verandas configuration are enhanced by integrated screens, allowing employees to seamlessly transition between workstations. These unique nooks create small zoning sections within the open-plan, warehouse-style office.

Selected in vibrant colours, our Railway Carriages offered flexibility in size and design, with the option to be open or closed on both sides. A matt black cladding finish suites in with the chosen lighting and window details, enabling a clean, sleek look which is professional whilst welcoming users into the space.
These intimate spaces provided a simpler way to create additional meeting areas, perfect for holding private discussions within a flexible work environment.

AstraZeneca acknowledged the importance of curating a positive employee experience, so it was essential that the People Hub was designed with features that enhance daily working life to boost productivity and satisfaction. To promote wellbeing, biophilia was integrated throughout the space, creating a more inviting atmosphere. Additionally, changing room facilities with lockers were incorporated to accommodate employees transitioning from regular attire to work uniforms, addressing the specific needs of a manufacturing environment.
